Vizsla treats and toys

There are loads of toys and treats on the market and with many not coming cheap I thought I would share my favourite toys (or should that be Poppy & Ozkar's favourite toys!) and treats for my vizslas.

Poppy - deciding what toy to play with next
Kongs - I have two sorts.  The Stuff a Ball and the original Kong toy.  The ball kong is great for adding treats to and the dogs love bouncing it around on the floor trying to get them out.  The Kong toy well I use this for something a little different.  I mix up some yoghurt and fill the the kong with this along with some chopped carrot and / or dog treats then stick it in the freezer.  Once frozen this is not only a great healthy treat but also keeps by vizslas entertained for quite a while.

Nylabones - As my dogs love chewing I have recently tried the Nylabones.  Obviously more expensive than raw hide chews these are non consumable chews which should last a good while while the dogs enjoy chewing on a bone.  It is early days but so far so good, they are still in one piece!

Raw hide Chews - Probably Poppy & Ozkars favourite treats (other than cheese) is a rawhide chew. Although they are not very long lasting, they don't cause any mess and come in all sizes and options, from sticks to shoes!

If you have any other treats or toys you want to share then please feel free to comment.

December Viz Whizz East of England

Our vizsla whizz on the 4th December went well although due to the bad weather we had a fairly low turnout. We had 7 vizslas including a wirehaired and although the week leading up was awful with the snow and ice we had a lovely sunny day on Southwold beach.

Our next meet up is planned for Saturday the 8th January 11am and will take place at Thetford forest (our normal location)

If you could let me know if you are attending that would be great and of course advise any other vizsla owners you might be aware of.

A Vizsla Halloween

What did I do for halloween this year?

Two things really..... I made halloween fairy cakes (fairies and halloween don't really belong together but hey, they did for me!) for a bonfire party.

Halloween fairy cakes

These went down very well and were gone in a flash!

For halloween itself, well we had a bit of fun....not liking fancy dress myself I decided my vizslas would perhaps enjoy it more.

Ozkar was the witches black cat but he wasn't quite as keen as poppy to pose for the camera...

Our first Viz Whizz for the East of England

The East of England Viz Whizz took place in September 2010.  The event came about after chatting with another vizsla owner and wanting to allow our dogs to socialise with their fellow breed.

The photos of our vizsla whizz which took place over the weekend can be found here http://twitpic.com/e/i9g

East of England Viz Whizz Sept. 2010
We had seven vizsla (plus one adopted one for the day) ranging from 8 months up to Buzz who as 8 years.  High Lodge at Thetford forest was a great venue and while we walked round we had lots of interest in the vizsla breed, which is always nice to see.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and we plan to meet up regularly from now on; between every month to 6 weeks.

The people who attended travelled from Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex.
